Position Title: Senior Petrophysicist & Wireline Operations Engineer

Department: Exploration & Development Department

Reports To: Exploration & Development Manager

Work Location: Erbil with available to travel to field locations, drilling rigs, and wellsites as required by operational and project needs.

Working Time:  Sunday-Thursday (8:30-16:30)

Schedule: Full time


KAR OG Alan Sasan DMCC is seeking an experienced Senior Petrophysicist & Wireline Operations Engineer to join our team.

The successful candidate will serve as the Company's focal point for all petrophysical studies, wireline logging, formation evaluation, and well data acquisition activities across exploration, appraisal, and development wells.


Key Responsibilities:

1- Well Planning and Formation Evaluation Programs

• Design detailed wireline and formation evaluation programs for exploration, appraisal,

and development wells.

• Define logging objectives, tool selection, acquisition sequences, and operational

requirements.

• Design formation pressure testing and fluid sampling programs.

• Develop coring and special logging strategies.

• Ensure all formation evaluation requirements are incorporated into drilling programs.

• Identify operational risks and recommend mitigation measures.

• Optimize wireline programs to maximize data quality while minimizing operational costs

and rig time.

• Support well planning activities through effective data acquisition strategies.

2- Tender Preparation and Technical Evaluation

• Prepare detailed technical scopes of work, specifications, and tender documents for:

- Open and cased hole wireline logging services.

- Formation pressure testing and fluid sampling services.

- Core/Sidewall coring services.

- Perforation services.

- Cement evaluation logging services.

- Production logging services.

- Special logging services.

• Lead the technical evaluation of bids and proposals submitted by wireline service

companies.

• Assess contractor capabilities, personnel competency, equipment suitability,

operational readiness, HSE performance, and previous experience.

3. Wireline Operations Supervision

• Supervise all wireline and formation evaluation operations during well execution.

• Monitor and support:

- Open and cased hole logging.

- LWD/MWD evaluation integration.

- Formation pressure testing.

- Fluid sampling.

- Core/Sidewall coring.

- Cement evaluation logging.

- Production logging.

- Perforation operations.

- Special logging services.

• Review operational procedures, risk assessments, and contingency plans prior to

execution.

• Ensure compliance with company standards and industry best practices.

• Verify data quality in real time and approve acquisition before tool retrieval.

• Provide technical support during critical operational decisions.

• Coordinate with drilling, geology, reservoir engineering, and completion teams during

operational activities.

4. Petrophysical Interpretation and Formation Evaluation

• Perform comprehensive petrophysical interpretation of exploration, appraisal, and

development wells.

• Conduct:

- Log quality control (QC).

- Lithology determination.

- Porosity evaluation, Water saturation calculations and Net pay determination.

- Rock typing and reservoir quality assessment.

• Integrate wireline, LWD, core, well testing, and production data.

• Support reservoir characterization and field development studies.

• Provide formation evaluation recommendations for drilling, completion, testing, and

development decisions.

• Prepare final petrophysical reports and formation evaluation summaries.

5. Data Quality Assurance and Technical Governance

• Establish and implement wireline and petrophysical data quality control procedures.

• Review all acquired datasets and contractor deliverables.

• Ensure compliance with industry standards and company technical requirements.

• Maintain technical documentation and well evaluation databases.

• Conduct technical audits of service providers and acquired data.

• Ensure proper data management, storage, and archiving wireline and petrophysical

Datasets.


Requirements

Qualifications

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in petroleum engineering, Geology, Geophysics, or a related

discipline.

• Master's Degree is preferred.

Eligibility

• Must be an Iraqi national.

• Must be available to travel to field locations, drilling rigs, and wellsites as required by

operational and project needs.

Experience

• Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in petrophysics, wireline operations, and

formation evaluation.

• Proven experience in exploration and appraisal well evaluation.

• Demonstrated experience in preparing technical scopes of work, tender documents,

technical bid evaluations, and contractor management.

• Extensive experience supervising wireline and formation evaluation operations.

• Experience in carbonate reservoirs is highly desirable.

Language:

• Kurdish and Arabic

• Fluency in English (Technical reporting and communication)

Software and Technical Skills

Mandatory

• Advanced proficiency in SLB Techlog.

• Strong experience in:

- Log conditioning and quality control.

- Petrophysical interpretation.

- Multimineral analysis.

- Saturation modeling.

- Net pay determination.

- Reservoir characterization.

- Formation evaluation workflows.

• Ability to independently generate final petrophysical interpretations and reports.

• Strong understanding of wireline logging tools, acquisition methodologies, and formation

evaluation technologies.

• Petrel.

• Interactive Petrophysics (IP).
